Lake Barombi Mbo, Cameroon

It is a 160L aquarium inspired by a video by Adrian Indermaur from Lake Barombi Mbo where we see Stomatepia pindu under a crosswood and leaf filled bed. Every detail has been created to recreate the natural habitat of the fish.

Aquarium description

Aquarium decoration

The substrate is composed of beige sand and Ocher from Sera. The rock that I have used in this setup is Seiryu gray and driftwood. The floor has pieces of Seiryu rock, a mix of branches, magnolia leaves and jackfruit, as well as some african pineapple and palm ring from Africa.

Aquarium equipment
  • Filtration Sera Xtream 400 UV
  • Lighting Sera led tube 20W

Fish:

  • Stomatepia pindu (Cichlidae)

Moss:

  • Versicularia dubiana (Versicularidae)

Fish care

The fish are fed with Insect nature from Sera since the diet of these animals has a significant base of small insects and larvae.

We also add canned bloodworms of the Artemia Koral three times a week.

Plant care

The moss for now is not being maintained.

Water care

The water is changed every 15 days by 30%. We also add Sera Bio Nitrivec and Dark from Discus Art to create the mixed effect of black and white water. In the images you can see the difference between crystalline and cloudy water that occurs in the lake depending on the moment.

Comment by the expert

Ad Konings: Overall impression: Very good. Criteria 6: Vesicularia dubyana is native to Asia.

Anton Lamboj: In general nice, but moss is not OK for the lake and no African species too, also it is impossible to see just one species of cichlids close to the shoreline in the lake… more species would have been more correct.
