Brycon aff. amazonicus is a freshwater, benthopelagic characid which lives in tropical climates. It is native to the Amazon river, but is also present in its main tributaries in Brazil, in the Orinoco and Essequibo River basins.

it is put in synonymy with other species, such as Chalceus carpophaga, Megalobrycon  cephalus, Brycon capito and other Brycon species.
