Also listed as Geophagus acuticeps, Satanoperca acuticeps is a freshwater, benthopelagic fish that lives in tropical waters. It is native to Manaus, Brazil; nowadays, it is present in the Amazon River basin, in the Branco, lower Negro, and along the Solimões-Amazon rivers in Brazil between the Tocantins and the lower Trombetas rivers.

This species lives is the more quiet areas of the river, over sandy bottoms.
