Marine biologist and ecologist

Angelico Jose C. Tiongson has graduated in Biology at the Silliman University, Philippines in 2012. Currently he is M.Phil. Candidate at the University of Hong Kong.
Angelico Tiongson is a Filipino researcher with more than 10 years of working experience on seagrass and mangrove ecosystems and marine mammals. He is currently based in Hong Kong and studies coastal pink dolphins in Hong Kong and large whales in the Philippines. Outside of his day job, he has explored the rivers, creeks, coastal swamps, and brackish mangrove environments in the volcanic and oceanic islands of the Philippines up to as far north as Camiguin Norte. His main interests are the gobiids and phallostethids in freshwater and brackish environments, and fish communities in seagrass and tidal environments.
He grew up on an island in the Philippines and has kept fishes for as long as he can remember. One particular memory he remembers as a very small child was catching “puyo” or climbing perches during one flooding in sugarcane fields in Tanjay and kept, fed, and maintained their water in a large blue vase for a very long time. Then growing up, he always had the typical aquarium setup with the popular angelfish and goldfish as a hobby and spent hours just sitting and staring at the tanks after school. He eventually pursued a biology degree because of this interest and subsequently specialized in marine biology focusing on seagrass ecosystems and on marine mammal ecology in the last decade. He eventually upgraded his skills in the hobby by building biotopes of native ecosystems from his hometown.
