Prof. Antonio Machado-Allison is a biologist who graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (Central University of Venezuela). He got his Ph.D. from the George Washington University and the Smithsonian Institute (Washington. D.C.). He is a titled Professor from the Institute of Tropical Zoology (Instituto de Zoología Tropical, Venezuela) and a Professor of the School of Biology (Escuela de Biología, Venezuela).

Antonio Machado-Allison is also the Director of the Aquarium “Agustin Codazzi” (Venezuela) and Chair III of the Academy of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (ACFIMAN). Member of the Latin American Academy of Sciences (ACAL), President of the Foundation for the Development of Sciences (Fudeci), Director of the Los Roques Scientific Foundation and President of the Palacio de las Academias Foundation. Currently, University Professor, College of the Environment, Wesleyan University (2023-).

His area of scientific interest and teaching is Animal Biosystematics, were he has incurred in theoretical and practical aspects in: Traditional Systematic, Numerical and Phylogenetics, and Ecology and Evolution of fish. Recently he has demonstrated interest on the factors that affect biodiversity, conservation of the aquatic fauna and the entropic changes that affect bodies of water. Machado also has had interest in the origin and historical descriptive aspects of the Venezuelan fauna.

Prof. Antonio Machado-Allison has also written and contributed to the following publications:

88 books or chapters and more than 113 scientific papers in national and international journals and 86 teaching notes, opinion, environment and biodiversity. Five books with prologues or presentations. He is Editor or co-editor of national and international scientific and academic journals and books.

Antonio is also  the Member of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONICIT) and Coordinator of the Council of Scientific and Humanistic Development of the UCV, Manager of Research Centers (Academic Vice-Rectorate, Central University of Venezuela), Internationally, Founding Member of the AquaRAP Program (CI-Field Museum) and the NIA (Neotropical Ichthyological Association), Research Associate at the Field Museum in Chicago, American Museum of Natural History, New York and the Smithsonian Institution and National Museum, Washington D.C.
