BAP Expert Ingo Seidel

Ingo Seidel was born in 1967 in the northern German city of Delmenhorst. After accomplishing his study as a mathematics and technical assistant at a large electronics company in Bremen, in 2001 he decided to turn his hobby into a profession and moved to the Berlin area. Since then, he has been working as a scientific assistant at one of the largest ornamental fish wholesalers in Germany.

Since early childhood, Ingo was deeply interested in animals, in particular fish, insects and birds. During his youth, the main interest emerged – above all for the fish fauna of the South American continent. Ingo developed a special love for catfish. He is involved in the BSSW (now IG BSSW) and led the catfish division from 1992 to 2006. For several years, he has been the editor of the BSSW-Report. Over the years, Ingo has been able to reproduce innumerable species of fishes in his aquariums, especially catfish.

The numerous experiences and impressions that Ingo gained on his trips to tropical South America, Africa and Asia, including his knowledge in breeding fishes, are reflected in the words and pictures of the many articles published in various aquarium magazines. Also worth mentioning are the numerous books that Ingo has published in cooperation with other experts since 2002, especially about the fish families Loricaridae and Callichthyidae. His hobby today are butterflies, which he also likes to chat about.
