Rio Trombetas is one of the major rivers of Brazil and is navigable as far as Cachoeira da Porteira, where the major rapids begin and where the river is naturally separated into two different regions. In 1989, during the biotope research in the Rio Trombetas, below a waterfall at the Cachoeira da Porteira Archolaemus luciae was found.
