Moliwe River is a small river in West Africa, it has a strong current and sandy bottom. The river has soft water and a temperature of around 26°C, conductivity 130 µS/cm; 4° GH, 3° KH, pH 7.6.

The water is clear and shallow. The river is surrounded by palm oil plantations, on the banks is a rich vegetation.

Due to the strong current, aquatic vegetation is hardly possible.

The former forest had to give way to palm oil plantations and roads. There is an absolute monoculture around the river.

Underwater landscape

Stones overgrown with algae and cyanos and a sandy bottom.

Comment by the expert

Ad Konings: Possibly because only a single reference was given that detailed the physical environment of the habitat there was no mention of other organisms or plants found in the habitat to be imitated.

  • 2 – No plants or inverts mentioned.
  • 4 – Link to single reference not working but paper has no info on natural requirements of fish or about environment of the habitat. The other reference has good description of the river and water parameters but no info on other inhabitants.

Anton Lamboj: Aquarium size is OK, most settings too – just plants are not African and are too much present with the roots in the water, more free space should be given. Therefore it is not absolutely showing how the biotope looks like.
