Najas conferta is an aquatic plant whose native range includes Cuba to Hispaniola, Panama, and Brazil. This plant is native to Brazil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Panamá.

It is very easy to grow in a biotope aquarium, where it can be deployed as a background plant. It can grow very fast at the required conditions, even growing up to 50-100 cm.

This plant also provides lots of cover for fry and fish.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t need special requirements and lighting levels can be supplied with standard aquarium lighting units.

Plant care

This plant needs medium lighting.

If planted in the substrate this plant is propagated by cuttings. The cuttings can be taken from anywhere on the plant but the stems are very delicate so great care must be taken when handling them. Due to the fragile nature of the stems it is best to re-plant them in small bunches so that they can support each other and keep the water flow in the tank at a low level.

Water care

It is often floated in the aquariums and the roots draw nutrients from the water.
