Morichal, Atabapo affluent, Orinoco

Sponsored by

Venezuela, Bolivarian Republic of, Amazonas, Atabapo

A natural morichal habitat found in the state of Amazonas, Venezuela, near the town of San Fernando de Atabapo. The moriche palms that grow in this densely forested area give the name “Morichal” to this tropical paradise. Roots, fallen leaves, and branches litter the fine white silica sand, providing the ideal habitat to a wide range of species in the crystal clear acidic waters of this morichal, many of which can also be found in the black waters of the Atabapo.
