…There were over the soft, snow-white soil, large Cincelichthys pearsei with hundreds of babies swimming in front of me, always following the mother, while the male was watching out for intruders. Among the steams of the water lilies were several other cichlid species with babies, apparently young Mayaheros urophthalmus but big to spawn. Groups of hundreds of steel-blue Astyanax were schooling along, a species I have never seen or heard of before…
