INDIA: The first exploration of Nagaland. Part 2

By Heiko Bleher

There are fourteen major tribes in Nagaland and the Tangkhul are actually from Manipur, but Meluri is a Pochury tribe village. The Tangkhul family that runs the Inn consisted in the woman and her seven children, the oldest being a 19-year-old boy who spoke a few words of English.

The Pochury were head-hunters until the end of the last century: all their 26 villages are in this region, all on hilltops and there are still about 3000 tribes people living. The festivity which was to take place is called Nazu and they do it to worship the new harvest season.
