Stream in Aik Seruk, Spot 2, Sijuk District, Belitung, Indonesia

Indonesia, Belitung Regency, Kecamatan Sijuk

This Biotope Aquarium is my second creation, following the previous setup dedicated to Rasbora sp., Striuntius lateristriga, and Pristolepis grootii, inspired by the Aik Seruk tributary in Sijuk District, Belitung Island, Indonesia. However, this second biotope differs in focus. In addition to Rasbora sp., it highlights the keeping of Desmopuntius gemellus, Brevibora cheeya, and Rasbora einthovenii – all equally native species that inhabit the same river and are now drawing growing interest from aquarists around the world.

Through this competition, I hope my work can serve as a useful reference for fellow fish enthusiasts, offering insight into the natural habitats of these species. In this Biotope Aquarium, I have designed additional crevices to provide nesting spaces while minimizing sharp or hazardous elements. I also ensured a spacious, open area in the center of the tank for swimming and feeding, all while carefully replicating the natural conditions of their native environment.

Aquarium information

Aquarium description

Set-up date
March, 2025
Aquarium decoration

I used river stones sourced directly from the location and incorporated roots and branches to mimic the natural habitat. For the aquarium background, I used a river-themed art print. The lighting was positioned to recreate the effect of sunlight filtering through the water, evoking the feeling of diving in a river.

Aquarium equipment
Fish care

I feed the fish daily with small worms and an appropriate amount of fish pellets. The aquarium provides ample space for swimming and feeding. Additionally, I’ve created crevices that serve as nesting and spawning sites for all the fish in the tank.

Fish list:

  • Desmopuntius gemellus (Cyprinidae)
  • Rasbora patrickyapi (Danionidae)
  • Brevibora cheeya (Danionidae)
  • Rasbora einthovenii (Danionidae)
Plant care
Water care

I clean the glass every three days, perform a 20% water change once a week, and replace the filter floss regularly.
