Sungai Cisaar, Ciletuh Hills, Indonesia

This biotope aquarium is a model for maintaining Sicydine goby fish that live in the Geopark Ciletuh area. Some data obtained from the Geopark Ciletuh Museum and the Bandung Geological Museum provide references for the types of rocks that make up this aquarium. The concept of this aquarium is a rapid stream under a waterfall.

Aquarium decoration

Rock: andesite, gabro, peridotite, basalt lava, plagiogranite, green schist, serpentinite, amphibolite dan phylite. Original gravel from the river mixed with natural brown sand similar to that of the Ciletuh River, a product of Plantasia.

Aquarium equipment
  • Sakkai pro h 800 30W LED
  • Krisbow 15W spot lamp
  • Aerator kandila KD-9904-Z 12L/Min 8W.
  • 1 powerhead Kandila KD-2600-Z 2800L/H 35W,
  • Powerhead Atman 860L/H 15W for upperhead sump filter,
  • Fan DIY 20W
Fish care

The aquarium recreates a waterfall-like environment ideal for the life of Sicydine goby fish. In this aquarium, dwarf shrimp that I caught in the wild and identified as Caridina serratirostris are included and can reproduce in the aquarium to serve as food for Sicyopus ssp. Additionally, Daphnia water fleas are provided as live food once a week, and frozen bloodworms are given as daily food.

Fishlist:

  • Sicyopus zosterophorum (Oxudercidae) – 2
  • Sicyopus rubicundus (Oxudercidae) – 4
  • Lentipes ikeae (Oxudercidae)– 7

Crustaceans:

  • Caridina serratirostris (Atyidae) – many

Molluscs:

  • Thiara winteri (Thiaridae)
  • Melanoides punctata (Thiaridae)
  • Ferrissia javana (Planorbidae)
Plant care

Wetland plants:

  • Davallia denticulata (Polypodiaceae)
Water care

The water in the aquarium is replaced every 7 days by 30% to maintain water quality. Of course, the aquarium has limitations in mimicking a waterfall; therefore, four air pump aerators with bubble stones are used to increase oxygen levels and cool the water.

Comment by the expert

Heiko Blessin:

Heok Hee Ng: Reasonably accurate reconstruction. Could do with a little more diversity in biotic fauna, perhaps adding some Rasboras and/or aquatic invertebrates.

Greg Martin: Very high quality entry. Outstanding work.
