Surrounding area

Located about 150 km from Bangkok, Pattaya is Thailand’s number one bathing spot and the stronghold of mass tourism. This area is located 5,7km east of central Pattaya. Water runoff from the city creates a lush marshland full of mosquitoes which provides plenty of food for fish.

This area is located in a constantly developing part of the city, so it is constantly changing and shrinking. This shallow, warm, stagnant water area is home to many labyrinth fish.

Underwater landscape

In terms of aquatic plants, only floating plants can be found in this area. Therefore, in the underwater part, fallen leaves and branches of coastal vegetation cover the substrate. The roots of these plants washed away by the water provide shelter for the animals that live here. The 0.5-meter deep water above the bottom made of decomposing plant debris is shaded by floating plants.

Fishes:

  • Betta splendens (Osphronemidae)
  • Betta smaragdina (Osphronemidae)
  • Trichopsis pumila (Osphronemidae)
  • Trichopsis vittata (Osphronemidae)
  • Trichopodus trichopterus (Osphronemidae)

Aquatic plants:

  • Salvinia sp. (Salviniaceae)
  • Eichhornia crassipes (Pontederiaceae)
  • Lemna minor (Araceae)

Terrestrial vegetation:

  • Ipomoea aquatica (Convolvulaceae)
Threats to ecology

As I mentioned in the introduction, this area is constantly changing due to the development of the city. The water is drained, its place is filled, the vegetation is laid out and the area is gradually developed.

Because of this, the habitat of the animals found here is gradually decreasing. According to my information, construction has also reached the area I described. Thus, this area ceased to exist in April 2022, together with the animal and plant world found here.
